If I did not already have a couple of power supplies I would probably just buy a jump start pack.

The 17aH is enough for firing and testing ballasts. In fact many times I use a smaller 10aH SLA. You can leave it plugged in while in operation. Sometimes I keep a 1.5A charger connected to the 10aH SLA depending on how near I am to a receptacle. Plus you can keep the jump start pack in your car.
If I had a larger variable PSU other than the 5A max one I would use it to dial it in but not risking burning it up on initial strike.

It's so big though! I use one of these, it fires OEM ballasts with ease. Never tried two though, but I can today.

guys im doing a in home retrofit this weekend i want a easier method of powering my ballast also leds strips im using in my retrofit could i use a jumper start like this?
