  • Looking for Bi-color red/amber LEDs

Looking for the 4-post square type (like Cree P4) with separate amber and Red elements. I'm looking to convert some ebay tail LED lights to euro style with amber turn signals. Anyone know if these are made?

i'm not aware of any manufacture that makes a superflux led in that style of any color combination. i know there's mfg's making red/green/blue led's like that, but not bi-color.

someone does make them. the SMD's on my old Passat, with European taillights had dual diode red & amber on a single SMD

      not a great video...

In SMD format yeah there's many options, but not in the superflux through-hole form factor that the OP requested, those ebay taillights use "piranha" 4-leg LEDs.

OP, a google search for "red amber dual color led" listed some different types of through-hole LEDs. You can get creative with bending the legs to fit the PCB of your taillights. Just know that they will be no match in brightness for dedicated single-color Cree P4, or proper quality dual-color SMDs, but they shouldn't be worse than what the tails come with.

how do the SMD compare for brightness. I could re-design the circuitboards to use the SMD version. Any links?

superflux are a complete package-- the led with focusing optics.

smd are the led only. they leave the optic design to the final product designer. some like the passat tails are very good. but there aren't a ton of optics available, and the few that are are very difficult to come by. most msd optics are designed for specific scenario's and not offered outside of that scenario.

Ran across these the other day, may be worth a shot to contact the seller about smaller quantities. They are 20mA max, so they won't be as powerful as a dedicated single color Cree P4 or Lumileds SuperFlux:

And some more search results for "bicolor led red yellow":

Cool. In my intended applications, I"m hoping that quantity will make up for brightness. The lights I'm working with use a 45mA single-color now and are VERY bright to look at.

Not superflux, and not specifically R/Y, but you might be able to get away with an XML RGBW and a frosted optic for an all in one setup. That would be awesome.

                  Sorry for hijack.
