  • putting HID bulbs in hella 500 and 700FF lights

greetings all was wondering whats the best H3 bulb you've ever used (trying to do an upgrade on some hella lights with out going HID because drilling the housings would void worrenty on the lights) if anyone knows of an HID bulb that would fit the lights with out drilling the backs it would also be helpful

I don't think such a low profile back HID bulb exists. I'd say F*** the warranty

another thing is they are located on a roof rack so having the wireing out the back would not look very good and no ware to mount ballasts that I know of

I too would like to see some Shallow back HID bulbs with AMP connectors. Something with a back like a right-angle Halogen bulb except with the wires coming down to AMP connectors.

        EDIT:

Holy carp, I found some on Google. I don't know if any would be shallow enough for your housing, but they may work for me.

Here is an image of what I'm talking about:

I found the image via Google Image Search and know nothing about the company that sells or makes them. Maybe TRS could stock something like this.

I don't know, I just found those on Google Image Search. They look like a 9005/9006 though.

Plug that image into google image search via upload and see if you can find an originated site or original series of images if one exists, you might be able to find a mgf, supplier, store, or maybe a contact information of someone who might know.

im wondering I found some H3C hid bulbs on ebay they are HID bulbs but look like H3s with a ceramic base http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...:X:RTQ:CA:1123 I don't know if they are even worth the time (the price is retarded for ebay but these may be my only option) has anyone ever seen these bulbs or even tried them to see if they are even worth anything?

That's the older style which I've heard isn't as durable (although probably better focal point). People now-a-days opt for the shorter "tube" style which looks like any other HID Capsule, but shorter. I think TRS has them.

Here is a thread about them:

ok so going with the normal H3C (style TRS has) would be best? and what would be best to not make the rack of lights not look like a creation of medusa if I drill the backs of them or would it be best to go with some good halogens

I've wanted to get the KC knockoff housings from auto zone and toss a set of H3 $30 HID bulbs in them for long back road hauls.
For some reason, I don't think they wouldn't look to cool on the roof of my Accord.

for cars I usually use the CARR lightwing its a licence plate holder and has two mounting points for lights (all mounting hardware is included) and with the rite lights does look good too (got one on my impreza with a set of hella optilux 4" HID lights installed on it) does an awesome job and also very sturdy (lights don't do any bouncing) but the hella 700 and 500 lights although great lights are also much more affordable then the optilux lights (6000K H3 bulbs come installed in them with hella ballasts mounted in housing) that's why im trying to find a more cost effective solution and upgrade the 500 and 700 to HID with out having to drill out the housings but its looking like ive got no choice but to do so (oh well split loom don't fail me now lol)
