Interior dome light fading effect... can I do it to my car?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to make interior dome lights fade in and out like those luxury cars out there. You know what I'm talking about, right? Like when you unlock and lock the doors of a BMW or Lexus, the dome light inside doesn't just turn on and off, it uses a fading effect to turn on and off. With my civic, It just flicks on and off with no fading effect. Am I able to make my interior dome light fade in and out when I unlock and lock my doors? There must be a way to do that right? Please inform me... Thanks.

I can't help you on where to find parts, but what you're looking for I'm fairly sure is a voltage(?) regulator. It's the same concept as the dimmer switches you can get for the car only automated. Gets the power source and slowly turns the power up to full and vice versa on turn off.
The above statement is my opinion and my opinion alone... if you don't like it it's my opinion that you can bite me

    Correct,

A voltage regulator just cuts off when you get to a certain height.

But what your looking for is a

    "Theater lighting" module.

    my civic came with that....

My 2003 civic has that already. there may be a way to take one out of a wrecked car and put it in your car. That may be little easier and if you take the whole dome light assembly, you will have map lights.

yes a capacitor wired on the positive lead would be the easiest way.. the capacitor stores a little bit of power.. when you close the door. the capacitor drains and the light dims and goes off. i cant wait to try it on my truck.

You need more than a capacitor, which will just drain instantly (you won't see any difference at all if you just put a capacitor across the bulb). The guy at webelectricproducts.com sells a module...

depends on the size of the capicitor.. you would need a rather large one.
