How can i tell if the bulb is burnt out? will it be black like a regular halogen bulb?

its hard to tell, but usually when a bulb gets very old like 5-6 yrs or lots of hours, there is a white puffy cloud in the capsule. almost like a cotton piece.
A quality OEM bulb really dosent ever 'burn out' They just generally go for 10+ years and then turn purple and put off 50 lumens.
If the capsule is relatively clear, then it is likely fine. If it is very hazed, then it might be bad.
If the bulbs are over 2 years old, i would replace them with new anyways.
ok one question, when i turn my lights on, the driver side dosn't light up and i cannot hear the buzzing sound from the ballast. the passenger side works and i can hear the buzzing. so my question is, if the driver side bulb is burnt out, will i still hear a buzzing? since i am not hearing a buzzing, does that mean that its my ballast or wiring thats the problem?
possibly the bulb exploded. i would check. but dont go reaching around with your hands cause glass pieces might poke you. just pull the base out and look.
If you need to be 100% sure if your bulb is burnt, then do the following: exchange bulbs. Connect the "burnt" bulb with the ballast of the other (good working bulb). If the "burnt" bulb works fine, then it's the ballast's problem. If it has the same (non) operation, then it's the bulb.
Easy and safe method called: "trial and error" !...
