I have an 2007 Audi A6 with OEM HIDs. now, i want to swap out the OEM ballasts, with boosted ballasts (probably oem). the trick here is that it has to be purely plug and play. no splicing, no cutting, no baking, nothing. so can it be done as easy as unpluging the ballast, removing it from the housing, and using the existing connectors connect new ones. (without freaking out the computer or anything)?

Getting ready to do my first retrofit. I've been into Hids for about 2 years now. my first car had green hids and didn't even have a relay harness. My newest car is a 2006 impala has DDM relay harnesses and 35watt 6k in the lows and 55w 6k in the fogs. The low beams are aimed low and the fogs are already projectors (came standard with the car from the factory). The 06 impala has separate hi/low beams, low beam bulb is h11. I just purchased the PNP bi-xenon upgrade with Apollo shields and fx-r and waiting on oem headlights to arrive. Do I have everything I need for the retrofit (not including tools) just as far as wiring goes?

So having used various ballasts (canbus and slim) made by Hyluxtek for well over a year now, I must say that they have been very reliable with 0 defects out of the 15+ pairs that have passed through my hands. Not only are they reliable but they have very robust contruction and have features that other inexpensive ballasts do not have. Has anyone else used them before? I guess my reason for starting this thread would be to see if TRS might consider selling them, the M9088, as an economical alternative to their Morimoto ballast. Similar to what xenon depot does...they have the XE (Hyluxtek canbus ballast actually) as their top ballast and the Volt as their lower end one...

This is the one I am currently using in my Mazda...very nice construction...AC...low failure rate from what I have experienced.

so i got tired of the plate lights using 5w each for a bulb and decided to try something new. i bought some 5mm warm white 50 degree leds from ledsupply.com and a pair of luxdrive dyna-ohm variable resistors (takes any voltage and outputs constant 20mA). mainly because i did not want the brightness to change due to voltage drops. i hooked up a led to test, and wouldnt you know it the color is a PERFECT match to a standard filament bulb. other warm white leds ive tried are either too white, too yellow, or have strange rainbow colors mixed together. not these. i decided to wire up 3 leds per housing, and i made the whole thing pnp by working the leds and resistor into the socket. there is super glue in there but most of it stays in place just from the soldering of the leads on top. the resistor fits neatly in the bottom and is soldered to the bulb leads. i got the 20mA version but when i tested the completed circuit it was only 10mA. not sure if my meter cant accurately read as well or if they are running at half power due to being in series? i didnt think it would. but the leds should last a long while i guess. i suck at stuff like this and was not able to line up the leds on each housing in the same position, so the right side is slightly "brighter" looking. i think overall it turned out well and not bad for 0.15w plate lights. i would say they are comparable to a 161 bulb (12 lumen), maybe 194 (25 lumen) bulb brightness. but dimmer than the stock 168 bulb and up close you can still see dots on the bumper despite me getting the wide angle versions AND shaving the tops of the led. waiting for it to get dark i observed other cars plate lights and some were actually even dimmer than mine. maybe its better they are not so bright. i dont think i would ever get pulled over for them not being bright enough. if i could get away with it, i wouldnt run any plate lights at all :D

here are the completed sockets. when installed and viewed outside of the housing during the day, it looks exactly like a filament bulb and totally clear due to shaving the tops with course sandpaper.
in real life you would not be able to tell the color difference between these and 194 bulb.
I ordered the h4 bulbs and when they came yesterday they also had the h4 wireing harness.

My question is do I run the original 9004 harness to my headlight socket and just use the h4s to the ballast or do I use the h4 harness and need to change my original headlight plug to accept the h4 socket. Thanks for the help

I am installing HID kit on 2007 Volvo VN780 semi-truck. The truck use H11 projectors. The bulbs are 100w. Now when I turn on the lights, they go on for a second or 2 and go out. I also bought universal warning canceler that is rated at 50w 60ohm, and that did not help. Is there a way I can calculate the bulb resistance myself, and how?

Hey guys/gals,

I haven't done any retrofitting before this project I'm thinking about undertaking.

I'm planning on putting some Morimoto XB Led Angel Eyes inside my housings and wiring them to my turn signals.

My first question: Does anyone know what size I should order for the angel eyes? I know I can measure the diameter of the projectors after I open the housing, but I kinda wanted to make the order first. If no one knows, I'll probably take them apart and figure it out that way.

Second question: I know there are plenty of people here with much more experience with wiring lights then myself, so....does anyone have any ideas on how I should do the wiring? Should I just run the angel eye wire into the specific wire for my turn signal lights? Is it that simple?

Thanks for the help!

I have been thinking to upgrade my Canadian Version 2012 C250 Sedan since day 1 I bought it. In Canada we are not offered the "lighting option" as in the States. I heard the whole intelligent headlight system is only a $1200 option. Because in Canada we could either go to pay $6-8k more for C300 which has the bi-xenon headlights, or upgrading them on our own. It was quite scary for the whole retrofit as this is my first time to do it also this is my first car bought in new, and it's only 1 month old. I don't want to make it too difficult so I picked up a pair of MH1, a pair of 3Five 5k bulbs, and a pair of IRIS shrouds from Matt @ TRS (Thanks Matt!!), and used a pair of VVME standard ballasts from my friend, also a pair of error canceller adaptor bought from eBay. It took me and my friend almost 8 hours to finish. The first time we sealed up everything and put back the bumper, one of the shroud fell loose inside the headlight. So it took another 2 hours to re-open the headlights and put more silicone caulk to secure the shrouds, and put everything back on the car. Besides it, the MH1 was too big to go through the H7 reflector bulb hole and 1-2mm needed to be sanded away. Last thing to mention is the chrome trim inside the headlight is extremely fragile and I did mess up a bit on this part. Anyways, hope no one will look really close and find out. LOL. I didn't have the chance to take any pictures during the retrofit cuz I'm wearing gloves all the time (also nervous during that moment). I will post some finished pictures below and enjoy!
